Artist Statement of Paul McGarragle

Paul`s work is based on his exploration of cultural identity in the 21st century. He uses distorted scales and laconic,
humorous combinations of objects to create surreal and thought provoking works, all cast in bronze.
His work "Cacti at Sunset" evolved from his experiences of the Mexican landscape is also shrouded in kitsch domestic
references to objects found in our homes, such as cacti on the windowsills.
The sculptural forms of the cacti take on an anthropomorphic presence; they appear to be throwing their arms out wide
in welcome or perhaps as a gesture of

"All my life as an artist I have asked myself: What pushes me continually to make sculpture? I have found the answer. art is an action against death. It is a denial of death. "
